How often do you make a change, look to improve or challenge yourself? It’s not always that easy and it certainly isn’t something that everyone enjoys. Does that mean however that we should stand still and do what has always been the way, whatever that way is?

Change for some can be quite a challenge but why is that? Is it because they have never taken a step beyond a certain boundary? Is it a fear of what lies beyond the horizon? Is it because they lose their own control and have to trust others? Imagine if the early explorers were unwilling to take a step and search the horizon; we’d still be living on a world we perceived to be flat. Imagine if the scientists were unwilling to take a risk and we still had no cures for illnesses that are now gone?
I guess if you’ve only ever lived in the basement, going upstairs and being immersed in kitchens with drawers and cookers and sunlight would cause some concern. If you’ve never been out of the front door the roads, cars, planes, wind, trees and creatures would be a fearful, mystical land. Does that mean however we stay where we are and accept our lot?
If change happens rarely, I assume it is seen to be an evil, done for the wrong reasons – “It was alright before so why not now?” If you don’t know then you don’t know and that’s where the problem lies, especially where openness and change is prohibited.

Take it to the other end and change that is constant… is that a good thing? Can constant change for the right reasons help people be adaptable, effective and successful? Will it help to develop people’s knowledge and experiences, widening their comfort zones? Sometimes I guess. There will be some that just cannot cope with change and are unwilling to take that step. And when this is the case where change is needed, it is going to be a challenge. For those people, good luck with your life – you’re going to need it.
